Yesterday we gathered at Marie Bashir Primary School, Strathfield, to celebrate fifteen, Catholic Schools Broken Bay, Year 12 students who successfully completed the Step Up into Teaching program - an incredible achievement made even more special by the presence of our school leaders and parents, who joined us to recognise and honour their students’ hard work and commitment.

Step Up into Teaching is a NESA‑approved early‑entry pathway delivered in partnership with ACU. The program gives senior secondary students the chance to complete two first‑year university education units while still at school, building their academic confidence, strengthening their readiness for university, and offering a clear, supported pathway into the teaching profession.

We are thrilled to share that every CSBB participant from this cohort has now been offered early entry into an Education degree at ACU, along with recognition of prior learning - a remarkable head start as they transition from school to university.  One of our graduates, Benji Jesperson, from St Leo’s College, Wahroonga, spoke during the ceremony about how the program strengthened his confidence in pursuing teaching, helped him build academic skills that are already supporting his HSC studies, connected him with inspiring tutors and lecturers, and introduced him to a network of peers who will continue to support him into university and beyond. He also spoke about how SUIT opened his eyes to issues of equity in education and broadened his sense of where - and how - he might make a difference as a future teacher.

These reflections capture exactly what SUIT is designed to do: nurture aspiration, build capability, and help young people see themselves as educators who can shape lives and communities.

To our 2025/2026 cohort - we are incredibly proud of you. Your passion for learning, service, and community shines brightly, and we cannot wait to see the difference you will make in the years ahead.
