St Leo’s Catholic College, Wahroonga, has an excellent music program with their Stage Band recently taking out first place Intermediate Stage Band at the Sydney Eisteddfod.
The adjudicator, Eric Dunan said “congratulations on a great, unique and interesting performance that really show-cased your band’s strengths. There were 16 bands in your category and so many great performances. You should all be really proud – that last tune especially – loved it.” Their winning piece, arranged by the College’s conductor, Ellen Kirkwood, and called Der Traum, was originally written for the Amsterdam Klezmer Band.
The St Leo’s Mixed Choir (18 girls and 5 boys) also competing at the Sydney Eisteddfod was awarded third place in the Under 19 Mixed Choir category with their renditions of the “The Rhythm of Life” and “Sailing Home”.
These excellent results reflect the depth of the College’s music program where students can participate in seven performing ensembles including concert, stage, jazz and symphonic bands, choirs as well as string and woodwind ensembles.
