40th Anniversary Celebrations at St Mary’s Toukley

October 1, 2013

St Mary’s Catholic School, Toukley are celebrating their 40th anniversary as a school community with a number of events held including a presentation of a commemorative plaque from Pope Francis, reflection garden, dinner dance, whole school photo and a mural.

The school community gathered in late May to worship on the Feast of our Lady Help of Christians. At the conclusion of the liturgy a special presentation was made by Robyn Rosina from the Toukley Parish Council. The school captains were presented with a commemorative plaque from Pope Francis to honour 40 years of Catholic Education at St Mary’s Catholic School.

Also in recognition of 40 years of Catholic Education, St Mary’s Parish Priest, Father Peter De Souza has created a sanctuary for quiet reflection and prayer. The area features a landscaped garden and a beautiful statue of Mary surrounded by children. The inscription on the plaque reads, “with gratitude for the past and hope for the future.”

A special 40th anniversary photo was recently taken of all students and staff, and planning is underway for a 40th anniversary mural depicting life at St Mary’s in 2013.
