Applications Now Open for Catholic Schools Exemplary Teacher Incentive Program (ETIP)

June 24, 2025

Catholic Schools Broken Bay (CSBB) has once again opened applications for its Exemplary Teacher Incentive Program (ETIP)—a transformative initiative designed to bridge the gap between study and real-world teaching. For aspiring educators, ETIP provides financial assistance, hands-on classroom experience, invaluable mentorship, and a support network that fosters confidence and professional growth.

One of the program’s standout participants is Gabriel, whose diverse background and passion for teaching have led him to an exciting career pathway through the Targeted Teacher Internship (TTI).

Gabriel, who graduated from Newington College in Stanmore in 2021, is currently pursuing a Double Bachelor of Design and Education (Secondary) at UNSW. With minors in Objects and 3D Visualization, Graphics and Multimedia Technologies, and Visual Arts, his studies blend creativity with pedagogy—skills that he now applies in the classroom.

His journey into the ETIP program was as unexpected as it was life-changing.

“I was serving a customer at my local IGA, making a bouquet of flowers, and asked her about the special occasion,” Gabriel recalls. “She mentioned it was for her colleague at Mercy College in Chatswood. I told her I was a second-year teaching student excited for my upcoming practicums, and she recommended I apply for the CSBB ETIP Program. I did—straight after my shift.”

That recommendation led Gabriel to St Paul’s College in Manly, where he now teaches at a 0.4 FTE load, working with four Stage 4 classes. The experience has been invaluable in building his skills and confidence.

“The ETIP program has helped me grow by placing me in schools early and surrounding me with a strong support network,” he explains. “Having exposure to students and high-quality teachers has allowed me to refine my teaching practice in a safe environment.”

Gabriel highlights the mentorship aspect of the program as one of its greatest benefits.

“My mentor is incredibly supportive and always makes sure I’m okay and well-equipped for success,” he says. “He takes time out of his busy schedule to have meaningful one-on-one conversations, ensuring that I continue to develop professionally and personally.”

While every day in the classroom brings new challenges, Gabriel has embraced the learning curve, particularly in areas like classroom expectations, lesson planning, behaviour management, and time management—especially in his Year 8 cooking classes!

“The experience and confidence I’ve gained by being in schools on a weekly basis is something I wouldn’t trade for anything,” he says.

For Gabriel, his ultimate goal is clear:

“I want to become a teacher who supports individual students through quality education. The ETIP program has given me the foundation to achieve that—not overnight, but through ongoing learning and experience.”

As applications open for the next ETIP intake, Gabriel encourages aspiring teachers to seize the opportunity.

“This program is something you don’t want to sleep on. It’s a wonderful way to build your teaching profession with unparalleled support.”

For those ready to step into a career that combines passion, purpose, and mentorship, now is the time to apply.
