Australian Gymnastics Champion

July 13, 2015

Year 6 student Ewen McConville recently competed at the Australian National Gymnastics Championships that were held during a two week period in May at Hisense Arena in Melbourne. The 2015 Australian Championships feature the top gymnasts from each state and territory competing  for the title of Australian Champion in Women’s and Men’s Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline Gymnastics, as well as Acrobatic Gymnastics.

Ewen competed in the Men’s Level 7 Artistic Gymnastics which saw him compete in the Floor, Rings, Pommel, Vault, Parallel Bars and High Bars events.  He was named as Australian Champion on High Bars and Australia Champion on Floor as well as placing third place on Rings and Pommel. Ewen also took out the 3rd Third All Round spot, his achievements helping Team NSW take out the Bronze medal.

Principal Jenny McKeown commented “For such a young person Ewan is able to discipline himself to train for 28 hours per week on top of school and his other extra-curricular activities. I find it amazing to watch his focus and precision. I feel sure we will hear much more about him as time goes on.”
