Teachers in Broken Bay Systemic Catholic Primary Schools have access to a range of professional learning experiences, on-line and in-school curriculum support that will assist them to implement the new NSW K-6 Science and Technology Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum.
As part of the initial phase of teacher and school leader educational support, Ms Gina Grant (Consultant, Government Education Policy from the Association of Independent Schools of NSW), led around 200 educators through a series of workshops focusing on:
- key features and intent of the Science and Technology K-6 syllabus;
- syllabus requirements relating to planning assessment and Scope and Sequence; and
- key elements of a unit of work and approaches to the integration of Working Scientifically and Working Technologically.
Access to a range of high quality on-line support materials and resources has been made possible through the system-wide implementation of the Google Apps for Education suite. The range of support materials includes relevant on-line multimedia resources, access to models of Scootle Learning Pathways, a range of information and resources relating to eLearning possibilities and the authentic integration of Indigenous perspectives.
Support for teachers and school leaders at the school level includes assistance with planning and programming requirements, the development and refinement of school-based scope and sequence, practical assistance with assessment and reporting, and parent education.
