Held once again at St Peter’s Catholic College in Tuggerah where teams of three Year Twelve students from seven schools competed.

The winner, for the second year running, was St Leo’s Catholic College in Wahroonga, while Mt St Benedict’s College in Pennant Hills took out second place. Judges agreed that third place was impossible to split, so awarded a joint-third place to St Joseph’s Catholic College in East Gosford and Mackillop Catholic College in Warnervale.

Students were allowed three hours to prepare, cook, serve and clean up a set menu which included an entree of orange and avocado salad, followed by poached chicken breast in tarragon sauce, with a dessert of profiteroles filled with chantilly cream and chocolate ganache.

“The judges were blown away by the quality,” said Phil Cox, Education Officer for Vocational Learning. “It’s a real chance for the students to showcase their skills.”

The three judges included Sandra Stowe and Dimitris Aronis from Ourimbah TAFE, as well as Executive Chef Keiron Brabender from Kooindah Waters Resort.

The students were judged on their group’s ability to produce creative, well presented dishes that were full of flavour and well presented.
